Currently the job is listed within four skill levels at level C, considered "low-skilled," but you can help change this designation, which informs federal and provincial policies to do with training funds and immigration.

    Sutco Contracting threw a party earlier this month to celebrate 20 years of success in an industry that takes no prisoners. Simply surviving for two decades is no small feat in trucking, let alone thriving the way this company has done. Yet it started with the dream of two 19-year-olds, boyfriend and girlfriend, one of whom knew nothing about the business. They'd known each other all their lives.

  • CHRIS and MELANIE SUTHERLAND TOP 20 UNDER 40

    "Chris and Melanie Sutherland started Sutco when they were just 19 years old. Now they are 39 and happily married and still working together. Both of us starting a business at the age of 19 was not easy. We worked seven days a week for many years," Chris says. Today, Sutco has close to 80 trucks and Chris and Melanie "couldn't imagine what it would be like to not work together." Among their fleet are six LNG-powered Kenworths and a brand new, bright-pink 2015 Kenworth T680, called Pink Power, which will raise a few cents per kilometer driven; it's expected to raise $70,000 over the next three years fro cancer research.

  • LIQUID NATURAL GAS POWERS SUTCO

    In Salmo, British Columbia, the team at Sutco has taken advantage of the opportunity to add LNG trucks to its fleet. They came across LNG in discussions with Inland Kenworth, one of Sutco’s primary equipment suppliers and a company that has ample experience with the technology in the U.S. market. Inland has been using the LNG fuel systems designed by Westport, whose global headquarters is located in Vancouver.
